Often, we go through life wondering if you are on the right path in life. Many people go through the wilderness of life only to find themselves at a place they were trying to avoid or always wanted to be.  I knew early on life that I wanted to be a school teacher, my fourth-grade teacher, had inspired me so much that I dressed up like a teacher for career day. I wanted to be just like her, nice and kind, always patient. Fast forward to June 1999, shortly after graduating high school, I had anticipated going off to college and becoming a teacher. That was not the case. I learned that money was not there for me to attend college.  I was devastated that my dreams of being a teacher had ended at that moment. I went to work and lived a very short teenage life that I should have enjoyed and found myself on a path of being a single parent, living in government housing, with little to no income, or future in sight. I never thought that I would endure all that I did at such a young tender age. I just knew I was headed to college and living happily ever after.

My journey in life has not been easy. I had my share of trials and tribulations (and still do) just like the next person but I found God. In finding Him, I became determined to fight for all that I had dreamed. Prophet Jeremiah says it best, ” For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah 29:11) God knew the plan for my life although I did not. All that I went through developed my faith and trust in Him. While doing so, I gained strength from Him to fight for my dream of becoming a teacher in spite of my circumstances.  I am proud of myself for not giving up or allowing others to discourage me in the process. There were many sleepless nights, working two jobs quite often just to make ends meet while pursuing a college education. I had become too determined to set the bar high for those coming after me in my family, especially my daughters.

Your dreams are worth fighting for. Maybe you have been wanting to start a business or continue your education or purchase a home, have children, be married, etc. Maybe you think that it’s too late to achieve those dreams you had as a young adult. Well, you are not old and it is never too late! We all have had life happen to us. We must keep the faith and pursue the dream anyways. So what if you had to move back in with family and start all over. Just keep moving in a forward direction towards those dreams. The trials you are facing does not feel good but it is for your good. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you encounter trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Allow perseverance to finish its work, so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything” (James 1:2-4).

The actual test is to see how much you are willing to fight for the dreams God has already implanted within you. I encourage you today to press forward in pursuing your dreams. Never give up. You are worth fighting for!
